GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental, appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides coaching, monitoring, training and supervising medical assistant team. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinic services. Represents ACMG in a positive manner. May be assigned to specific medical specialty to assist with patient care related to that specialty. Responsible for radiologic procedures, maintains examination rooms and stocks medical and radiologic supplies. Also responsible for laboratory test processing and phlebotomy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• 1. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Takes x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.

- 2. Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials in accordance with OSHA standards.
3. Draws blood and collects specimens for laboratory testing utilizing proper safety and disposal techniques. Processes all paperwork using the correct forms and contracted laboratories. 4. Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. 5. Logs radiologic procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed. Maintains lab and x-ray records. Ensures an OSHA compliant and clean working environment. 6. Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Requests supplies for all radiological and laboratory needs. 7. Develops and processes radiologic film. Delivers, picks up and returns film. 8. Assists medical assistants with provider and clinic support. 9. Manages radiologic services in accordance with clinic and governmental standards. 10. Works with Compliance Officer and Radiology Supervisor in maintaining radiologic policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for improvement. 11. Trains/orients personnel to ensure compliance with accreditation, legal and other regulatory requirements. 12. Maintains and inspects equipment and materials. Coordinates in-service training. 13. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. 14. Check schedules and organize patient flow. 15. Assist Team Members with patient care as needed (specimens, preparing for exams, nurses visits etc.). 16. Perform triage per provider guidelines. 17. Coach, monitor, train and supervise the back office staff medical assistant team. 18. Consistent communication with the Clinic Supervisor regarding clinic matters. 19. Oversight of the provider and team schedules. 20. Report all concerns regarding patient flow and job performance to Clinic Supervisor. 21. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE: 1. Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques of radiology to direct and back-up the activities of x-ray staff. 2. Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize and correct hazardous conditions. 3. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement. 4. Knowledge of radiology equipment, including safety hazards common to radiology. 5. Knowledge of phlebotomy, laboratory testing and basic medical procedures. 6. Knowledge of managed care insurance and contracted providers of service. 7. Knowledge of computer system including practice management software to enable proper appointment scheduling. SKILLS: 1. Skill in positioning patients properly. 2. Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor. 3. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. 4. Skill in tact and diplomacy with regard to interpersonal interactions. 5. Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and family members. Ability to interact with staff in an appropriate manner. ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Exam and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, communicable diseases, including bloodborne pathogens, and other conditions common to radiology and laboratory settings. Office setting is well lighted and well ventilated with adequate space. Office is a non-smoking environment.
